Since 2018 you’ve followed 12 year old Jaru girl Mia, as she learnt about her place in her culture and community and began exploring her identity as a First Nations girl in ‘Black Cockatoo’. In 2023, you adventured with Mia again down to boarding school in ‘Dirrarn’. And now you can join her, a grown women in the final semester of university when she is called back to defend Country using her cultural knowledge and new degree in ‘Ngurra Home’.
It is such a nerve wracking experience telling this last story. The responsibility to represent Mia with strength and determination. To show her growth.
And it is weird to be finishing the story that started our author career with just 500 copies printed has now gone on to sell over 88,000 copies and been studied in many schools across Australia and the world.
