Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Shortlist

July 5, 2019

We are excited to announce that our debut novella, Black Cockatoo (Magabala Books 2018) has been shortlisted for the Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Awards in the 8-10 Year Old Category.

We are listed amongst some other deadly books that help children get the best, most literate start in life. The Award aims to:

  • promote quality Australian children’s literature;
  • enhance awareness of the role speech pathologists play in language and literacy development; and
  • encourage a love of reading.

To be selected for this award our book had to meet strict criteria including:

  • strong narrative format
  • appealing characters
  • encourages the reader to explore new ideas and concepts
  • encourages the development of imagination and curiosity
  • use of appropriate language
  • engaging
  • and… well presented.

Congratulations to all the other shortlisted authors- who can be viewed here: https://www.speechpathologyaustralia.org.au/SPAweb/whats_on/Book_of_the_Year/SPAweb/What_s_On/Book_of_the_Year/Book_of_the_Year.aspx?hkey=6d7d21b1-0cd6-4b86-91e3-11884f031a02
