An update on all things writing

June 30, 2020

We have been busy working on new stories and learning lots about being authors. Here is an update for all our followers and supporters.

We continue to work with our editor and writing mentor Shel Sweeney from A Worded Life Editing Services and agent Alex Adsett from Alex Adsett Publishing Services.

Carl received the Black&Write! Fellowship for 2020 for his series of picture books- Backyard Sports. He has also been shortlisted for the SLWA Writer’s Fellowship 2020 and will find out in August if he has been successful to receive funding to write his football based middle reader series.

Hakea received a grant from the Arts Council of Australia for her middle readers series, Indie Outback.

We have a few co-authored books coming out over the next two years together:

  • Tracks of the Missing (Magabala 2021) is a YA suspense thriller novel set in the outback.
  • Beautiful Night (Hachette 2021) is a picture book about the beautiful things that we find out night camping or walking. We are excited to share that the talented Dub Leffler will be working on this text as the illustrator!
  • Untitled (Hachette 2022) will be a picture book about the different ways we can say I love you in the outback.

Black Cockatoo (Magabala 2018) continues to have success. It has been chosen for study in schools all over Australia. We still have the comprehensive teaching resources available for free over on our teacher page.

We are in the final consultation stage with Kija Elder, Sophie Mung, for a picture book about finding bush foods.

We are also working on co-authoring a romance novel (about thirty thousand words into what should be about a ninety thousand word journey).

We also still have a handful of picture book manuscripts with Alex to see if they will find publishing homes.

So there it is!

Lots of exciting things in the pipeline and we look forward to sharing more with you in the near future! Stay tuned by bookmarking this website, following us on social media or subscribing to our mail list (that we will one day soon start doing with confidence and frequency).
