We were having a ball whipping up the Learning Resource Pack for all you teacher mob. When we finished we went to put it on teacherspayteachers.com… only to find there are some deadly books and units of work on there already!

  1. Us Mob Walawurru (free)

We have never read this book but it is now catepulted straight to our must read list… about a young girl from Derby region (just up the road from Halls Creek- Kimberley distance) in the 1960s it sounds interesting to say the least.

2. The Family Made of Dust ($4.99)

This sounds super intense… but a super important read. The struggles of a Stolen Gen survivor as he struggles to hold it all together and find his place. Definitely a unit for older students.

3. The Rabbits ($4.99)

I LOVE SHAUN TAN and I LOVE this book. A truly magnificent author and illustrator. This work package has low literacy worksheets.

4. The Burnt Stick ($5.00)

I have vague memories of when we were asked to study this in high school. But I know it is a re-read with a broader mindset and life experience book. This work pack is Blooms aligned.

And now of course the book you should ALL study with your 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 classes- Black Cockatoo by Carl Merrison and Hakea Hustler and published by Magabala Books. The cream of the novel study TeachersPayTeachers crop… or should I let you decide?! Available for free download in our resource tab above but uploaded to TPT for wider reach- viewed here:¬†https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Black-Cockatoo-Learning-Resource-Pack-Aboriginal-Novella-Worksheets-4005929
